My Favorite Things From 2020

Hello everyone and welcome back!

I apologize yet again about the delay on my blog post. I was going to do a “What I Got for Christmas” post, but I was afraid that it would come off as bragging so at the last minute, I had to brainstorm new ideas. Luckily, I came up with the idea to share with you guys some of my favorite things from 2020!

2020, without a doubt, hasn’t been an easy year. Even though this year hasn’t treated me or the rest of the world very well, the little luxuries and goodies of life never fail to put a pep in our steps. I do want to make one thing clear and say materialistic items DO NOT BRING HAPPINESS. There is more to life than a beauty product or a cool Amazon gadget that we discovered on TikTok, and these things only bring joy for a few minutes. However, what materialistic items do bring are distractions. I think the one thing that has helped me stay strong throughout this whole year was distracting myself, and I can thank my family, friends, and debit card for that 😂! Without further ado, here are my favorite things from 2020.

EVERYTHING IS LINKED IN THE SUBHEADS AND DESCRIPTIONS

“These are a few of my favorite things”….

  1. My Quiet Time Duo: New Morning Mercies Devotional Book by Paul Tripp & The Starting Place Study Bible

As some of you may know, I have been doing quiet time every morning since the quarantine back in spring. “Quiet time” is time set aside during the day where you do nothing but connect with God. My quiet time consists of doing three things: 1. reading a devotional, 2.reading some chapters from The Bible, and 3. praying. My quiet time is so sacred and important to me, which is why I chose the best tools to help me grow my relationship with God and Jesus, especially since I’m a new member in the Christian community.

New Morning Mercies is the first devotional book I’ve read so far, but I can honestly say that I would recommend this book for anyone who’s Christian or a newbie just like me. Paul really goes deep into scripture, and takes every day situations and connects them to key messages in the Bible.

In regards to The Starting Place, again, highly recommend. If you just started your journey with God and the gospel, reading from this study Bible is a good start. It provides character biographies, demographics on biblical/historical landmarks, timelines, breakdown of verses, study questions, and introductions to each chapter, all in which will give you a better understanding of scripture. Reading the Bible can be intimidating, which is why I’m thankful that I found The Starting Place.

  2. Dash Mini Waffle Makers (especially the holiday models)

I can’t even tell y’all how obsessed I am with Dash mini waffle makers. Not only are they so easy to use, but they make waffles SO FREAKING ADORABLE (pardon my French). Also, stores like Target sell Dash mini waffle makers with seasonal patterns such as pumpkins and skeletons for Halloween, gingerbread men and snowflakes for Christmas, and a heart for Valentine’s Day. These are a great gift for anyone who lives by themselves or don’t have a huge family, and they make breakfast time so much more fun.

  3. Amazon Fashion

I am truly a changed woman after discovering Amazon Fashion. Not only are their pieces affordable, but super stylish. Sometimes, I’ll find cuter outfits and accessories than the ones in regular retailers. Also, Amazon boutiques sell a wide range of dupes that look almost exactly like designer pieces, which makes fashion something that can easily obtained by everyone. Plus, who doesn't Amazon Prime shipping!?

  4. Criss cross slippers

I have been dying for a pair of criss cross, open-toed slippers ever since they became a trend. I bought a pair from EMU and I’m still in love them. They’re perfect for a lazy day at home, or if you want to dress up and don’t to wear regular shoes in your house. You can also find this style of slipper at affordable retailers such as Amazon and Walmart.

  5. Matching PJ/Lounge sets

I love wearing matching sets to bed. I feel so much put together when I wear a cozy PJ set around the house and when I’m sleeping (my favorite set is from Nordstrom). PJ and lounge sets also make scrub days more enjoyable, because you still feel cute without even trying. I am proud member of the PJ/lounge set collecting club, and will continue to add more to my dresser until it breaks.

“When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad.”

These are all the things that put the sweetness into this bittersweet year. Again, materialistic objects do not bring happiness or solve your problems, but they are good for making each a little easier until we can find true happiness. I hope you all enjoyed today’s blog post and I will talk you all on Thursday for the second episode of LexTalk/the last blog post of the year.
